Local Entrepreneur Celebrates Anniversary of New Life with Ribbon Cutting

On Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 3:30 PM, The Golden Orchid Spa & Shop will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate Yvette Shirey's one-year anniversary of entrepreneurship. After achieving her goal of becoming Vice President at a major publishing company, Mrs. Shirey set out on an entirely different career path. She opened the Golden Orchid Spa & Shop.

"As a mother, wife daughter and friend, I, like many other people, felt overwhelmed juggling my personal life and busy career. In search of a place to escape to find balance and peace, I frequented a variety of day spas." Mrs. Shirey said. "Never quite finding the place that made me feel comfortable, warm and secure, I decided to build it myself."

After an exhaustive search for the ideal location and business environment she decided on her hometown of Frederick. Since her bold decision to follow her dream and leave a prosperous career as an executive in September 2002, The Golden Orchid Spa & Shop has become the premier day spa in Frederick. "Since opening in December 2002, I have found that the city and community of Frederick have been supportive of new businesses and their ideas," said Mrs. Shirey.

Mrs. Shirey believes one of the biggest contributors of the company's success is the friendly and knowledgeable Golden Orchid staff. She feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Pat Schultz, Gena Hemler, Jocelyn Harris, Debbie Galdamez, Kathy Rice, Beverly Carlson, Dana Carlson, Theresa Thompson and Christine Cardelli. "The Golden Orchid has one of the most professional day spa staffs in the country." Another contributing factor in the spa's success is their location in Shab Row on historic East Church Street. "You will immediately begin to relax upon entering the Spa. Once inside you realize that this is not the typical day spa. You are greeted with soothing music, warm colors, pleasant aromas and friendly, welcoming smiles."
