We opened the Golden Orchid Salon & Spa with a bang! If you have not had a chance to see our new facility, I hope you will stop by for a visit real soon! We still have the same spa services and friendly faces at the original old house on Church Street but now we offer salon and spa services in the more modern location in Everedy Square.

Some of our guests still prefer the quaint charm of the old house but others have commented on the quiet rooms, no steps and jazzy décor of the Salon & Spa. I am happy that we can now satisfy all tastes and needs!

Most of the service providers have chosen specific days & times to work in each location so if you have a specific service provider and want a specific location, please request that when you make your appointment.

NAILS, NAILS, NAILS
We are happy to announce that we are now offering odor-free gel and acrylic nails. Kathy DeBaufre has joined our team and over 10 years of experience with these enhanced nail services. Many of her long time customers have now become Golden Orchid guests and we warmly welcome them. Kathy is working full time so if you would like to experience these services, please call to schedule your appointment.

We have fantastic nail technicians on our team. Cherry Saum and Katrina Thompson provide a wonderfully relaxing natural manicure and pedicure and will soon be going through an education program to learn the craft of enhanced nails so they can offer all of the Golden Orchid services to you! Kathy Bradley and Tori Harter are Cosmetologists who are also available for natural nail services as well. If you are looking for an hour of relaxation resulting in soft and pretty hands or feet, get your manicure or pedicure at the Golden Orchid.

We have some of the areas best stylists on staff at the Golden Orchid. If you are looking for a new look to spice up your holidays or just want to find a place that you can relax while getting your hair done, the Golden Orchid Salon is the place for you! Kathy Rice, Jessica Pagano and Kathy Bradley have years of experience with styling, perming, coloring and maintaining hair. They have also gone through the Golden Orchid extensive continuing education program where they have been taught by the best in the industry from American Crew for the perfect men’s cutting system, Keune for creative coloring techniques that give natural, shiny long lasting color, Essations for ethnic hair straightening and conditioning and MOP & So Pure for organic product uses and benefits. Tori Harter and Jennifer VanSant are great cosmetologists that have recently joined the team too.

Brought to you by the Golden Orchid esthetics team, Christine Cardelli, Theresa Thompson, Renee Lineberry and Megan Sanbower. One of the most relaxing experiences is a facial that includes light massaging of the face, shoulders, hands and feet. All of our facials include these as just one of the details that makes it extra special. Remember, Bioelements makes each of our facials customized for the individual’s skin type and condition so no two services need to be alike. Megan Sanbower is also certified in Lymphatic Drainage which is great for ridding the body of toxins that naturally build up in our lymph system. The entire team continues their education at the Bioelements Conservatory of Esthetics.

THERAPEUTIC, RELAXATION AND SPIRIT LIFTING BODY SERVICES
The Golden Orchid Massage team has continued their education and offers guests unmatched excellence in body treatments. Often, I hear nightmare stories of painful and hurtful massage services at other locations. Buyers beware, not all massage therapists are alike. I am fortunate to have found the best of the best! If you are looking for relaxation massage to unwind or therapeutic massage to work some kinks out Pat Schultz, Debbie Galdamez, Jocelyn Harris and Sue Walsh are fully licensed and trained to help. Pat Schultz and Debbie Galdamez also offer Reiki to boost the spirit. Jocelyn is certified in Pregnancy Massage and Debbie is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.

Brides will love what we are doing with Creative Force Photography. Perfect wedding photos are not an accident. They require the most skilled photographer, proper lighting and specialty make-up application. Shawn Campbell knows the make-up artists at the Golden Orchid know how to apply make-up so he refers his brides to us! Shawn personally took my wedding pictures 14 years ago so you know I trust him!

The Golden Orchid is also partnering with Giftco and can provide our bridal guests with custom bridal favors for the wedding , shower, and rehearsal events.

OUR PRODUCT CHOICES
As I did when I chose Bioelements for our skin care line, I was looking for high quality products that would extend the premium salon experience for our guests at home. After testing and researching, I decided on Keune for our color and main styling product line. Keune is a Dutch company that I had a chance to visit when I went to Holland to see my family in 2003. They are the original creator of hair gel and have been a behind the scenes influence in the hair industry for decades. Their extensive scientific lab is impressive and the result is products that leave your hair looking and feeling strong, healthy and shiny. Their after color shampoos and balsms aid in extending the life of your salon service. Although not well known in the United States yet, it is one of the top choices for premium salons in Europe.

In addition, I wanted to make sure we offered organic products for those of us concerned with the everyday toxins, chemicals and artificial products bombarding our bodies. Modern Organic Products (MOP) and So Pure are two gentle and organic lines we offer. I use them for my daughter and myself. They even have styling products to choose from. THE PERFECT MAN PLACE
While women still make up the majority of our guests, we have not forgotten men. 40% of our massage clients are men and men also take advantage of our nail, hair and facial services. We offer American Crew products for shaving and hair care, Bioelements for men’s skin care, and we offer a jazzy and relaxing environment for hair cutting and camouflage coloring.

GIVING BACK
For the 3rd year in a row, the Golden Orchid is donating $1.00 for every salon or spa service of $20.00 or more to the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund at Frederick Memorial Hospital. This money goes directly to the purchase of early detection equipment so that local women have a fighting chance. This year, I am donating in honor of my friend Gitte Marle who lost her 8 year battle in May.

In addition, the Golden Orchid staff each did their part by donating $5.00 for the Susan G Komen Denim Day event on October 7th.

Inspired by our families personal struggles with cancer, my husband Brian raised over $1100.00 for the Tour of Hope and trained for 8 weeks to ride in the 50 mile ride with Lance Armstrong from Columbia to DC. Thank you to everyone who donated!! Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Tammy forced officials to cancel the ride but the money will still go to support the fight for the cure. I am confident he will continue his support and ride in 2006.

Frederick was one of 5 cities in America to be awarded the National Mainstreet Award in 2005. This honor was achieved by the Downtown Frederick Partnership who has been a driving force in the growth and excitement downtown. If you want to contribute to the Downtown Frederick Partnership or help by volunteering for one of our fun events, we can always use your help! Just contact me and I can point you in the right direction.

I am also excited about the changes in the Frederick Chamber of Commerce. New leadership has given the Chamber an energy boost that is proving local businesses with resources including seminars on personnel management, business development, Frederick’s changing market, and much more. In addition, it is providing businesses with networking opportunities and a voice on political issues that impact the Frederick small business and economy. As the Chair of the Ambassador Committee, I welcome any feedback on the current Chamber and look for additional Ambassadors to meet with other Chamber members to mentor and guide them on Chamber opportunities.
